Land
Soil, climate and vine. Each of these three factors play a key role in the personality and prestige of Rioja wines. Currently, Bodegas Benjamin de Rothschild & Vega Sicilia owns 92 hectares of vineyard. All are located on the slopes of the Sierra Cantabria, north of the Ebro River, distributed between the municipalities of San Vicente de la Sonsierra, Labastida, Ábalos and Elvillar.
They are plots of small size, in high terraces on poor soils of clay-limestone. The predominant variety is the Tempranillo grape, the only one used to make Macán and Macán Clásico. The climate is mild, with an Atlantic character and influences of Mediterranean and continental currents.
