Macán Clásico 2012 is the pure expression of the Tempranillo grape in Rioja.
The vineyard cycle was totally normal, with a mild winter, and a spring with good rains in terms of timing and quantities, which maintained the vines in an appropriate condition both health-wise and in terms of phenology, and a hot end to summer also contributing to the normal grape development.
Clear skies in September allowed for unhurried grape picking at each plot – which sought the right balance between the qualitative components, and outstanding health to ensure 2012 was a great vintage.

2013 was a difficult year requiring strict selection of grapes.
Macán Clásico 2013 is fresh, pleasurable and elegant.
Mild winter with rainfall throughout the season. The cool spring led to slow sprouting. The cool summer closed with a period of good thermal contrast between day and night. Veraison by mid-August (15 days late compared to average) and later harvest than other years, with low rainfall and temperatures throughout the harvest period.

Macán Clásico 2014 offers us the purest expression of Rioja Tempranillo. This is a fresh, jovial and pleasurable wine.
The heavy rainfall and cool temperatures of winter resulted in the late start of the vineyard cycle. The situation straightened itself out thanks to a spring and early summer with high temperatures and well-distributed rain that fell at key times for the optimal development of the plants. These favorable conditions, which meant an absence of sanitary complications in the vineyard, were further enhanced by the heat of July and August. Although the cycle began a little later, veraison was accelerated to the point of happening earlier than in an average year.
The harvest took place in the last week of September and first of October and, despite the high temperatures and intermittent rains, the grapes were of very good quality.

Macán Clásico 2015 offers us the purest expression of Rioja Tempranillo. This is a fresh wine, which is also serious, with both substance and concentration.
From a meteorological perspective, the 2015 vintage was marked by a cool and very moist winter, reaching almost 500 l/m2 between October and March. This plentiful rainfall, added to a warm and dry spring, led to ideal conditions for budding and commencement of the growth cycle of the vines. Temperatures remained high throughout the summer, with sporadic storms that provided the required water for excellent ripening of the plant. All this meant healthy vines, suffering only from a couple of hailstorms that reduced the yield in the affected areas.
The harvest was carried out normally, between 17 September and 3 October, with dry weather, a good thermal contrast between day and night and, therefore, proper balance of the components of the grape.
A warm vintage supported by a very favorable winter.

Macán Clásico 2016 offers the purest expression of Rioja Tempranillo. This is a fresh wine, which is also serious, deep and persistent.
From a meteorological perspective, the 2016 vintage was marked by plentiful rainfall during the winter months which allowed for the accumulation of water reserves. These helped to tackle the effects of a very dry and fairly hot summer. Bud-break took place on 20 April, somewhat delayed compared to the year before, whereas flowering occurred on 20 June. During August and September, the water stress incidents aggravated the ripening problems stemming from excess production in many parcels throughout La Rioja. In the summer, the lack of rainfall resulted in bunches with smaller grapes at the start of the season, although the moderate rain that fell in the third week of September helped to complete the ripening process. These good weather conditions contributed to increase production forecasts.
The harvest began on 17 September and ended on 3 October.

Macán Clásico 2017 offers the purest expression of Rioja Tempranillo, with a warmer and firmer, albeit very harmonious, style.
Winter 2017 was generally mild and dry, with some cooler days in December and January, followed by almost springlike temperatures in February. Late frosts happened in April, one of the most severe having affected the vines. Spring brought forth occasional rain and suitable temperatures to boost the growth cycle. There was significant rainfall in June, whereas July featured occasional hailstorms that harmed the vines. Nevertheless, subsequent conditions helped towards their recovery. The rains at the end of August and beginning of September reduced the water scarcity and helped boost vine growth.
The harvest took place normally between 15 and 27 September under favorable weather conditions.

Macán Clásico 2018 offers the purest expression of Rioja Tempranillo, with a fresher, more subtle and elegant style.
2018 was a cool and moist year with mild winter temperatures and abundant precipitation, including six snowfalls during the first quarter, which resulted in considerable water reserves in the soil. Sprouting was delayed by 10 days and plentiful rainfall and moderate temperatures continued throughout the spring. This led to a 2-week delay in ripening.
The harvest took place normally between 2 and 14 October.

This warmer vintage throughout the vineyard cycle hinted at great concentration and power, which was indeed the case. However, thanks to the 80 liters of rainfall in September, the grape skins radically changed texture from dry to firm with the promise of an excellent quality. A vintage of very mild – almost infused – extraction, where nature has provided it all. During the aging process we used lighter toasting in order to maintain freshness with American oak.
Macán Clásico 2019 offers a more concentrated and powerful expression, coupled with the fresh and cheerful touch of our soil.
2019 was a dry year. The lack of water during May, June and July affected performance in the vineyard, further conditioned by above average temperatures even in the fall and winter. In fact, it can be recorded as the warmest in ten years, with days with above average temperatures and a heatwave at the end of June and beginning of July with temperatures in excess of 40 ºC. Ripening was affected by the drought, with very little fattening of the grapes. However, the 80 liters that fell during the first half of September helped to satisfy the vines’ water needs and led to the rapid fattening of the grapes.
Finally, the weather respected the harvest, with picking having taken place throughout the region under mild temperatures, little thermal contrast and no fog or precipitation to endanger production.

2020 was a bountiful, wet, balanced and fluid vintage. A difficult harvest due to the Covid pandemic, but the vines produced fruity grapes and elegant skins. This was a year in which we were able to extreme extraction and where oak played a greater part in the aging process, in order to add density to the wine.
Macán Clásico 2020 offers a more cheerful, vibrant, digestive but fun expression. Macán Clásico is gradually consolidating its own style.
The first part of the vineyard cycle was marked by a fairly moist spring with high temperatures. The rainfall of May and June helped to accumulate reserves in the soil.
As for temperatures, the average values were above average only during the summer months, mainly during the first half of September, with some days with strong and warm southeasterly winds.
With regard to rainfall, this was a slightly moist season, having mostly occurred between March and June.
